So I think I’ve found a miracle product which is strong praise indeed, but hear me out with this one.
As you probably know, I have struggled with acne over the years, and even after a course of roaccutane I still get breakouts and congested skin.
I always find that the summer creates havoc for my skin, thanks to; sunscreen, heat and sweat means that my cheeks get SO clogged up, and congested, which leads to me having a mini freak out. Well this happened a couple of weeks ago, my skin was soooo bumpy, it looked like a smarties chocolate bar underneath make up (does anyone else remember them?!)
I then realised that I’d run out of my favourite toner, and realised the exact same thing happened last year when I ran out of it, so I hopped onto amazon, and primed myself a fresh new bottle and within just a few days, my skin was smoother, clearer and less congested.
Now this miracle toner isn’t a new find to me, in fact this bottle is probably my 5th and the same thing always happens, I run out of it, and for some reason I seem to think I can live without it, then I have an epic breakout and I realise I can’t live without it.
So what is this magical toner? It’s Paula’s Choice 2% BHA Salicylic acid toner (affiliate link) I came across this in January 2019, after suddenly being confronted with lots of tiny bumps on my forehead, and after a quick google search, I found lots of posts that recommended this toner, so I ordered it and well within just a few days, It cleared my forehead up and I was like ‘what is this sorcery?’
This is the only spot/blemish treatment I use in my skincare routine, and it always helps me out when I get breakouts, and keeps things relatively clear and smooth.
So what’s so special about it?
Well the 2% BHA (which I believe is the highest you can get in the UK) doesn’t irritate my skin or make it worse which a lot of acid toners do, and salicylic acid is one of the best things to use for acne and blemishes, because it penetrates the skin (it’s the only acid which does this) which means it gets actually into the pores and clears out excess oil, dirt, etc…
Within a few days of using this, I always find my skin clears up and stays relatively calm, when my skin is majorly freaking out, I use it every evening after cleansing, I douse a cotton pad and take my time to really apply it and hold over particularly troublesome areas. I then repeat as I’m going to bed and don’t add any other skincare products, I do this for a couple of nights and find this helps to calm things right down, and then I go back to my adding my usual skincare products once the breakout has calmed down.
When things have calmed down, I use this most evenings, and add my other skincare products over the top. I have a couple of nights a week off it, as I don’t want my skin to get to accustomed to it, and find this works quite well for me.

But I don’t think I’ve actually written about this toner before which is mad because like I said, I’m on my 5th bottle of the stuff and it’s one of the only things to completely clear and calm my skin down!!
I’d love to know if you have any miracle products in your skincare routine for acne? Or have you tried the Paula’s Choice toner?
