Well, we’re spending more time at home right now than we probably ever have before, and it seems like it won’t be changing anytime soon.
Hands up who else has been having a good clear out/clean during lockdown?
We’ve decorated most rooms, and I feel like I’m constantly cleaning and sorting things out which is great, because normally we may not have time to do these things, so it does feel good to be organised.
With everything going on right now, it has made me think a lot about things like hygiene, but also the importance of making your house a safe space that you can relax in, because right now there’s a lot going on and our houses and in particular our bedrooms, need to be a haven for us to recharge and relax in.
We’ve been decorating our bedroom currently, and I’ve always found that having a tidy, clam bedroom, means I get a better night’s sleep.
I’m working with TEMPUR® on this post, to talk about how to make your bedroom a calm and hygienic place so you can try and get a good night sleep.
- Have A Clean & Tidy Space
So this is totally one of those things that a Grandma would say, but I honestly swear by having a tidy bedroom as it makes me sleep better. I try to keep on top of clothes being out and keeping my bedside table and chest of drawers tidy and organised (but more on that later.)
I also each week try to do a deep clean of the bedroom, by changing the bedsheets, having a dust etc… as keeping on top of your bed and mattress hygiene, is something that’s important and shouldn’t be overlooked.
With the current climate, this is more important than ever, and TEMPUR® also understand this, as their products such as mattress and pillows, all have zip off covers which are machine washable at 60 degrees to ensure your bedding is always hygienic, fresh, and clean. The TEMPUR® Elite and Luxury mattresses also both have a Quick Refresh cover making cleaning even easier. For when you want to go in store to try mattresses once the shops are open again, TEMPUR® will be offering disposable mattress covers and antibacterial hand gel in stores to ensure customers can experience TEMPUR® safely at official TEMPUR® Brand and Outlet stores, subject to store opening date.
Cleaning wise, I have a bottle mixed with my trusty Zoflora which I spray on the bed (it’s metal) door handles, windows and bedside tables. I also have a bottle with fabric conditioner and water mixed which I use on the curtains and bedding, and finally a duster and polish, to polish any items round the bedroom.
2. Fresh Bedding
So to keep things feeling fresh, I love getting new bedding, although I do have quite a lot at the moment so when I’m not buying new bedding, I take extra time when changing the bed and ironing bedsheets to make them feel hotel worthy! I hate ironing but always thinks it makes a difference.
Even just getting a new pillow or duvet can help with a good night’s sleep, I’ve recently been sent a TEMPUR® pillow which is amazing and helping me to get a better night’s sleep, it’s like sleeping on a cloud! Did you know that TEMPUR® was first created by NASA in the 70s to cushion astronauts during lift off? And now many years later, their products have been developed through extensive research meaning that their pillows and mattresses evenly distribute weight and pressure, ensuring you get a good night’s sleep. And they have the only mattress product that is recognised by NASA and certified by the Space Foundation.

3. Get Organised
Our bedroom was a bit messy and unorganised at the start of lockdown so I’ve been having lots of sort outs to try and tidy up.
I’ve been using drawer organisers from Ikea to organise my drawers, sorting out clothes and trying to be ruthless and give away anything that I’ve not worn for 12 months. I also looked up videos on YouTube on how to fold clothes to maximise the most space in your drawers!
Henry made some shelves for our wardrobe which has made a massive help for storage and organisation, and made the wardrobe so much tidier which has made a difference.
Things like getting vacuum bags and putting away clothes under the bed can also be a great way to tidy up and organise, and keeping on top of your bedside table contents by throwing out old products or giving away ones that aren’t suitable for you. I am so guilty of keeping empty body lotion bottles so these all went in the recycling!
I’ve found since sorting everything out and getting a lot of the bedroom organised, I’ve found it a much more calming and relaxing space, so can’t recommend this enough!
4. Change Your Bedroom Up
Whether it’s a repaint, or even just changing something small like your bedding, or adding some new prints, this can make a huge difference to how your bedroom feels!
I’d browse Pinterest for inspiration, and our bedroom is a working progress at the moment, but we’re aiming for it to be a really calming and relaxing space with neutral colours, and prints on the wall that make us feel calm- I’m thinking maybe a bit of a beach theme with these!
I feel like a little refresh can make your bedroom feel brand new and that usually means I’m excited go to bed to sleep and relax. You ultimately want your bedroom to be a space that you can relax in and look forward to doing that in.
