I know that social media seems to decide that our worth is based on a number count, but I promise you it is not.
You are more than a bunch of numbers on a screen. That’s all they are – numbers on a screen.
The amount of likes you get on a photo, is not a representation of the quality, and effort it has taken to create- I promise.
The fact that the algorithm is hiding your posts, making your job ten times harder than it already was, isn’t because your content isn’t worth showing. It’s down to data, a computer, it’s not personal.
Your follower count going down each day and every time you post a photo is happening to EVERY ONE of us – it’s not just you I promise. And it definitely has nothing to do with your face. (I always lose followers when I post a selfie 🤷🏻♀️)
We all don’t know what to expect every morning when we open up our DM’s – is this going to be good or is this going to be bad? But we’re fed up of being told ‘the bad is just something to be expected when you put yourself online.’ No it’s not Susan, IT SHOULDN’T BE EXPECTED AT ALL.
The ‘where from?’s ‘ or in my case ‘ I need to you do me a custom wallpaper’ ‘why haven’t you put this week’s wallpapers on Pinterest yet?’ ‘ send me this wallpaper without this on’ can make you feel used, leave you thinking ‘why do I bother?’ But I promise, there are people out there, who appreciate you and all you do online.
Just because you aren’t working with your dream brand right now, doesn’t mean you never will.
And just because someone else is working with your dream brand, doesn’t mean they won’t ever work with you, it doesn’t work like that.
Everyone has bad days.
Remember on those bad days that Instagram isn’t real life.
For every 1 good photo, are 99 ones that didn’t make the cut.
You are good enough, you are pretty enough. You are enough.
You’re not a terrible blogger because you don’t blog that regularly. There’s no right or wrong amount of posts you should be doing.
For every comment on your body- the ‘have you put on weight?’ ‘are you pregnant?’ ‘why do your feet look like that?’ ‘ you should eat a burger’ ‘Why do you have no top lip?’ ‘why is your skin so bad?’ There’s a girl at home who looks just like you and feels inspired and loves seeing someone like herself online.
There are people who keep up with all your content, watch your stories, like your posts, save your posts, but just don’t shout about it, but I promise you there are people who ADORE what you do.
Everyone struggles, everyone has days where they browse Indeed for jobs.
Everyone feels like giving up sometimes.
No one started with an engaged following, working on amazing campaigns, or being flown off on press trips- but the fact of the matter is they didn’t give up.
For every shitty comment that keeps popping up in your brain- don’t let it have the satisfaction of staying with you. That’s what they want.
You are not too old, or too young.
You’re not a terrible blogger/influencer, in all honesty – all of us are just winging it.
For every article bashing influencers, or someone messaging you ‘ well no one asked you do this as a job’ there’s someone else willing you to keep creating content.
I think there’s maybe something in the water this week, as today, Instagram seems to be full of women like myself feeling deflated with this whole blogging malarkey.
As a full time blogger, it can be the most amazing job in the whole wide world (and I think how lucky and grateful I am every day -believe me) but sometimes it can feel like you’re failing.
This week, my emails have been like tumbleweed, my likes are abysmal, followers are dropping like flies, everyone in my timeline seems to be working with my dream brands and I’ve been getting emails like ‘you didn’t make the cut for this campaign’ ‘the campaign is booked now’ ‘the brand went in another direction’ which have all collectively made me feel like I am doing a terrible job at this blogger thing.
My PMS fuelled brain is telling me I may as-well give up because no one would notice, and then my regular brain tells me to get a grip, put on some Taylor Swift and keep on working.
So I thought after seeing Kate’s Instagram stories, I’d write a post. I wanted to write a post for anyone else who may be feeling this way.
I try to not post too many negative things as I don’t really like being negative, but you can’t always be happy and positive and I know this is first world problems, but no matter if you’re a blogger/influencer or whatever job you’re in, we all have days where we don’t feel enough.
Where we feel like we’re failing.
Like we should just give up and not try.
But we should keep going.
So to my fellow bloggers, I hope you feel better for reading this.
There are so many positives to this whole blogging malarkey- let’s stop the likes of Instagram, trolls, and rejections making us feel so bad all the time.
Who’s with me?
