With us being just a day away from Christmas, and we are now officially into Winter, it’s time to snuggle down and let the festivities begin. One of my favourite things about Christmas is the cosy days that happen between now and January, I love afternoons on the sofa with a film and copious amounts of hot chocolate of course.
Today, I thought I’d chat about some ways to keep your house cosy and warm this Winter, and to keep you prepared throughout the winter months as after all, a cosy house isn’t just for Christmas.
Here are my top tips on how to winter-proof your house:

- Christmas Decorations:
Okay so this is a seasonal one, but does anyone else agree that the house looks so much more lovely and cosy with all the Christmas decorations up? I love having the fairy lights on and the tree all lit up on dark afternoons, also putting the Christmas lights on every morning makes me so happy! I do pretty much have fairy lights up all year though, because I’m a firm believer that fairy lights aren’t just for Christmas, but I love how the decorations make the house feel super cosy.
2. Cosy Blankets:
I love having blankets around the house, I feel like they really make you feel cosy and of course help you to be extra warm whilst snuggling down with a film on the sofa. I couldn’t be happier than when I’m wrapped up in a blanket with the candles on, perfect!
3. Winter-Proofing Your Home:
Of course if your home is feeling chillier than usual this Christmas, there are a few ways to sort this and make it lovely and warm again in time for the festive period.
Firstly Local Heroes have come up with an excellent winter warmer guide on their website which includes seven handy tips on winter-proofing your home this Christmas. They include tips like moving furniture away from the radiators as this might be blocking the heat getting out, which is something that I wouldn’t of really even really thought about doing before, and looking at getting things like a draft excluder (you can get some super cute ones these days!) To put under doors to stop drafts which can add to your house being cold.
We desperately need to get one for our bathroom so this is a great tip, and reminded me to get this sorted!
There are also five other great tips too, so would recommend heading over to read the guide for some ideas to keep your house lovely and cosy.
I’m working with Local Heroes today to not only share some of these handy tips but to also tell you about their amazing new boiler finance options from under £24.00 a month which is so good!
Local Heroes if you don’t know, is a platform backed by British Gas, to help match skilled and vetted local tradespeople for customers, which I think is a great idea. It can be a bit of a challenge to find the right tradespeople for you, you always hear horror stories don’t you of scams or unfinished jobs, and doing work around the house is expensive so you want to ensure you’re hiring someone who’s right for the job. We want to decorate our bedroom and renovate our bathroom next year, so I will 100% be using Local Heroes to find the best person for the job!
Local Heroes are experts in boiler care and know all the essentials to what it takes to heat a home, and they understand the importance of ensuring their customers feel confident they are looked after during the colder, winter months, which I think is great, because is there any worse time of the year for something to go wrong with your boiler? They have lots of boilers to choose from too, ensuring you get the right one for you and your home.
It was this time about three years ago, that our very old boiler started to act up and we had to replace it. It was very expensive, although it needed doing and to be honest, it has made the world of difference and I think if this plan of the unmissable boiler finance options from under £24.00 was around then, we would have definitely done this to spread the cost than have to pay out in one go. These deals are available across December 2019 and January 2020, if you are interested.
Of course, it might not be straight away that you jump to wanting to change your boiler but it is advised if it’s over 10 years old, it could be time to get a new one.
But check out the winter warmer guide first and go from there 🙂 but at least there are lots of options which is SO reassuring.
4. Get Some Cosy Bedding:
You guys know that I love sleeping and an early night is always a fave for me, I love having some lie ins over Christmas and of course the best way to enjoy lots of sleep is with some amazingly cosy bedding. I need to tell you about our fleecy bedcover – it’s SO cosy.

I’m also a big fan of brushed cotton bedsheets, they’re like what I imagine to be sleeping on a cloud is like!
5. Hot Drinks Are My Go-To:
My final tip for keeping warm is hot drinks, which may sound a bit of a weird one but I always find that having a hot drink helps me to keep warm and also makes me feel super relaxed and chilled. I’m currently loving hot chocolate of course, but also just hot water and lemon which I find is great for when I feel like I’m coming down with something and there’s so many colds and bugs going around atm, this helps to boost my immune system!

All in all, I do think that investing in your home is so important, we spend a lot of time at home and there’s nothing worse than when it feels cold. Our house has become so much warmer since we replaced our boiler and a few new radiators, of course my blankets and fleecy bedding have also helped us to feel cosy and snug this December!
I’d love to know if you have any recommendations for making your house super cosy at this time of year?
