As promised in yesterday’s post, today’s post would be a Q&A all about our trip to the Maldives, I thought this may be a good way to answer questions about our trip as I got a few messages whilst I was away, and thought this would be the easiest way to answer them all!

What website did you book your trip on?
We booked our honeymoon directly through the resort, and booked our flights through Netflights. We flew with Emirates, but bought the flights through Netflights which I thought were very affordable for long haul flights.
Where can you find the best deal?
We looked around when booking, and I found that there was some good deals on lots of places; Bluebay Travel had some very good deals for Kuramathi, and Kuoni were very helpful with trying to personalise a quote for us for the resort. Because we booked with about 8 weeks to go, it meant that it did make it quite difficult getting a quote which is why we went directly to the resort. However, if you’re booking in advance, I’d recommend talking to both these travel agents as they were very good with finding quotes/information for us.
What Made You Choose Kuramathi Resort?
We decided to go for Kuramathi because it seemed like it had lots of things to do, and the sheer amount of places to eat and drink really appealed to us. We’re quite fussy eaters so we thought choosing an island with lots of places to eat, would ensure that we’d be able to find stuff to eat. I feel like Kuramathi was the perfect resort for us, and I can understand why it has so many rave reviews, as it was seriously dreamy!
How Did You Edit Your Maldives Pictures?
I used Lightroom to edit my pictures, but honestly, the Maldives is so beautiful, the pictures barely needed editing!
Is it really worth the massive expense? Compared to other luxury holiday destinations?
Yes! The Maldives is unlike anywhere else we’ve ever been. The destination and service were completely worth the expense, as we were waited basically on hand and foot. It was such a high quality of food, drink and the resort was beautiful. The Maldives is the most beautiful place we’ve ever visited and yes it’s definitely worth the expense.
Any must do activities on the resort?
We didn’t do an awful lot, but that’s the beauty of the resort, just chilling. We loved spending time on our deck, swimming in the sea, etc… We hired a kayak one day which was really fun so I’d recommend that, but we just loved chilling and spending time with one another. The swings on the beachfront are very cool though! I’d also definitely go on the Sunset cruise, that was incredible and one of the highlights from our trip!
What are the best restaurants at Kuramthai?
For us, we loved The Palm (italian) Tandoor Mahal (the indian) and Island Barbecue. We ate a lot of pizza, burgers, pasta and ice cream. Don’t worry, it’s not all seafood, we were able to eat very well and we’re both pretty fussy eaters (we both don’t like seafood!)
How did you decide on the time of year to go to get the best price/weather?
We decided to go for November as it’s a pretty dreary time of year in the UK. It’s also the start of the high season in the Maldives, so it’s quite a good time to go as it’s not peak time, but is reasonably good weather, so the prices are a little cheaper. I’d definitely recommend November as we had amazing weather, but we’ve found that with The Maldives, you can’t really depend on the weather as it can be very varied all year round! I’ve read reviews from people who had rain all week in November, and sun all week in June. So it really varies. But we found November to be a good time to go 🙂
How was the travel? And how long does it take?
Long – but worth it!
We travelled with Emirates and had a two-hour stop over in Dubai. The plane journeys were 7 hours from Birmingham to Dubai and 4 hours from Dubai to Male. Then you have to get a plane or boat to the resort. The sea plane took about 15-20 minutes but costs extra, and the boat takes about an hour but is included with your resort stay.
So depending on which flights you choose / your layover time – it averages between 11-15 hour journeys. There is only one direct flight to Male, which goes from Heathrow ( I think) with British Airways, and this is quite pricey, so it’s up to you whether flying direct is worth the price!
What Is There To Do?
There’s so many things to do at Kuramathi; chilling, swimming, snorkelling, day trips, diving, there’s a spa, gym, water-sports, and much more!
What Do You Need?Â
Going to somewhere like The Maldives did seem a bit daunting as you’re on an island with limited places to get stuff, so you kind have to pack it all. Although there are a few shops, it’s best to try to take whatever you need with you. However, I’d recommend taking your own snorkeling stuff if you have it (don’t bother buying some if you don’t though- as the stuff you can hire for free will be fine but just a note if you have your own) but do try to take ear drops/ear plugs as Henry managed to get water in his ear which ended up in us visiting the doctor when we got back home, so I’d take something like that with you!
I’d also recommend not taking any heels/anything too dressy as it’s a very casual island, I took some wedges that I didn’t wear at all! The plugs were also UK ones so you don’t need to worry about adaptors! But it’s just your regular holiday bits that you need really. There were beach towels, a hairdryer, and toiletries in the villa which was great.
How Much Was It To Go To The Maldives?
Whilst I’m not going to disclose the total price of our honeymoon, cause I feel like that’s private to us, I will say that trips to The Maldives aren’t cheap. However, I was surprised when looking that there are options that won’t cost you as much as you think. I’d say on average you’d spend 4-6k for a week in a water villa, however, I found some deals between 3-5 k for staying in a beach villa, or going at off-peak times. December and January are the peak times so the most pricey, and I found that booking with less than 12 weeks to go, did help with offers.
It’s a special place to go which is why i think it’s worth the money! When talking to places like Kuoni, you can give them your budget and they will try to accommodate it. It’s not a budget holiday but it’s one you’ll never forget!
