Hello! So for today’s wedding post, we are talking about decorations and our wedding theme. Yes that’s right, we’re getting into some juicy stuff. I have no idea why I just wrote that.
Okay so anyways.
I was a bit of an indecisive Irene when it came to wedding decorations, and I blame Pinterest for that.
I spent so much time on Pinterest in the lead up to our wedding, that Henry told me to come off it as it was giving me too many ideas for our theme. Everyday I’d basically change my mind, and not only was I doing Henry’s head in with the constant Pinterest notifications, I was even winding myself up!
I don’t think I officially decided on everything till a few weeks before the wedding, even up until a few days before I kept worrying if we had enough candles for the table (yes really!)
But looking back, I think everything looks perfect, and I wouldn’t change a thing.
And yes, I think we did had enough candles.
Phew.
So let’s talk decorations and themes, and what we finally decided on.
The Colour Theme
So we decided the colours pretty early on, and there will be no surprise that pink was one of the colours that we chose! We went for black, pink, gold and grey.
We did want the colours to be quite subtle, and I love how the colours all looked together -even if I do say so myself haha.
Decorating The Venue
We were lucky that our venue, Lemore Manor was beautiful as it was, so it didn’t really need much decorating/styling. The Orangery which is where we had our wedding meal, was a gorgeous bright room with a marble floor (all of the heart eyes!) The Coach house where we had our ceremony, was also lovely, and didn’t need too much decorating- guys try to pick a wedding venue like this – you’ll save some money!
Although we decided to do a lot of the decorating ourselves, we did hire styling company Couture Events who regularly style weddings at Lemore. As I wanted coloured napkins and gold cutlery and it worked out more cost/time effective than me trying to source these things myself.
So from Couture Events we had; grey linen table runners, gold cutlery, gold tealight candles for the table, and pink napkins (which were tied in a bow) for The Orangery, then for the Coachhouse- we had two cream lanterns and petals down the aisle.
We would have struggled to have done this ourselves, so I was glad that we had Couture Events to do this for us, Jo was so good with ideas and helping out, and even though we only had a few things from them, they did an amazing job and it added to the both rooms.
We then did all of the stationery ourselves, so this included place names, menus and social media signs. We printed these ourselves, I bought some marble and blush pink paper from Paperchase ( I should have bought card, I didn’t realise that I’d bought paper till I’d opened both packs) and we designed the menus just on Pages and my sister designed the template for the place names on InDesign.
I loved how the marble and pink looked together, so we did alternate tHe place names, and then put a menu on each table with a social media sign with details of the hashtag (which no one used haha) and about the snapchat filter that we created. We propped these up, using mini easels from eBay which Henry spray painted gold, and then we created the table names on Pages and used these heart stands also from eBay to stand them in.
I loved how it all looked together though, and think we did a pretty good job! Oh and if you’re wondering, the fonts we used were : Stylish Calligraphy, and Champagne and limousines (though the letters are spaced apart and CAPS)
To add more of the theme/colours on the table, we had some pink and marble favours.
Although I’m not sure if favours were that necessary looking back, I do think they looked quite pretty, so I’m still glad we did them. We bought some pink pillow boxes from eBay, which we filled with mints (cause you can’t go wrong with mints right?) then I got some marble stickers from Etsy which had our initials and the wedding date on.
We only had a few close family children at the wedding, so for their favours, I ordered some personalised colouring kits from eBay which had a colouring pen and lots of activity sheets. I’d definitely recommend looking into these, if you’re having any kids at your wedding.
For the table plan, we also did this ourselves. I made a mock template on Picmonkey which my sister then created in InDesign, and we had this printed on A2 Foamex board at a local printing shop. It worked out much cheaper than having one designed!
The Table Theme & Centrepieces
So, our table theme and centerpieces were based around our favourite TV Shows and Films. We watch quite a lot of TV and you guys will know full well, that I usually just watch repeats of my favourite programmes.
We made a shortlist of our favourite shows and then we had to try to decide how to make the centre-pieces related.
Henry decided that he wanted to use Funko Pop Vinyl figures for the centre- pieces as he’s such a huge fan, I won’t lie, I wasn’t sure at first, as I was worried they may look a little gimmicky, but I have to say, I’m really glad that we used them as I think they worked really well and everyone commented on how much they loved them!
I also really enjoyed the hunt for the ones that we needed, it was a little like being Harry Potter searching for Horcruxes. We would buy them one by one, constantly looking on Amazon for offers, and eBay. We did find that the best places to buy them were; eBay, Amazon, Pop in a box and Forbidden Planet.
You may be surprised to see that Friends wasn’t included with the table themes, and as much as I love Friends, the Friends figures were so expensive, that we couldn’t justify getting them. We also thought we may have to make custom ones for Blair and Chuck, cause I was like, I have to have a Gossip Girl table. But then, I saw that Funko were actually releasing Gossip Girl figures and I got very excited.
Who knew how excited I’d get over figures, but like I said, we did get quite caught up with the hunt for them!
I emailed Funko, as the Gossip Girl figures weren’t supposed to be released till the end of May, so I asked if there was any possible chance, that we could find out when they’d be released as I was determined to have a Blair Waldorf figure. Funko got back to me and completely surprised us, by sending us the whole Gossip Girl range, as soon as they launched. I think we were possibly one of the first people in the UK to have them.
HOW COOL IS THAT?
We were so, so grateful, and can’t thank Funko enough for being so kind.
As well as on the tables, we also had a few figures dotted around by the doughnut tower.
So the films/TV Programmes we had were :
Gossip Girl
Riverdale
Guardians Of The Galaxy
Gilmore Girls
The Mighty Ducks (Henry customised these)
Harry Potter
ELF
Mean Girls
Then the characters we had around the doughnuts were :
The Flash, The Arrow, Liv from iZombie, Supergirl, and Jenny & Nate from Gossip Girl.
So next let’s talk about The centrepieces and how we created these.
So we placed the figures in a glass bowl which we got from Hobbycraft, then Henry made the stands from oasis which we also got from Hobbycraft. We painted them either black or white, then for the Gossip Girl table, Henry made some steps to recreate The Met Steps, and for the Gilmore Girls table, he made a stand that would fit Lorelei and Rory as well as a Luke’s diner mug.
We then covered the bases with coloured stones, I have no idea where Henry got this idea from, but it looked so good! We ordered different coloured aquarium stones from eBay to fit within the theme. E.g Mean Girls – Pink stones, Riverdale -blue stones, for the Elf and Mighty Ducks table we got fake ice chippings and snow.
Then to finish it all off, we added some fairy lights which were wrapped round the figures.
I think they looked so cool, and have to admit that Henry’s plan all came together and I loved how the figures looked. Everyone commented on them, and I really felt like they added a personal touch to the room.
We now have about 30 Funko Pop Vinyl Figures to try to display somewhere, I think we need to get some shelves up!
When it comes to your table plan/theme, I’d recommend to try to make it as personal to you as you can. It could have been very easy to just go for something pretty or flowers, but I’m actually glad we didn’t.
And I’m of course over joyed that Gossip Girl got a little part in our day haha!
Right well, I think that is everything.
We could have gone mad with the decorations, I was pricing up flower walls at one point, but honestly, you don’t need an awful lot, I felt like the little touches like the pink napkins and stationery made a huge difference, you don’t need to spend a lot on decorations- trust me.
I really hope you’ve enjoyed hearing more about our decorations and how we decided on our theme, and it’s been helpful if you’re looking for some wedding decor inspo yourself.
Let me know if you have any other questions at all!
What would be your dream wedding theme?
