Okay, so you are probably well aware that I love a good cosy afternoon watching Christmas films. I’ve been watching Christmas 24 since before Halloween, so we all know that I’m a festive film keen bean. For today’s post, I thought I’d share 10 of my fave Christmas watches, in case you find yourself stuck with what to watch this weekend!
These are in no particular order btw, not that it really mattered, but there we go!
1. ELF
This is probably my fave Christmas film, yep that’s right, I just went there. I love Elf, for many reasons, it’s set in NYC so that’s always a winner with me and I’m one of those annoying people who quote it word for word. Buddy the Elf is my hero.
2. Home Alone / Home Alone 2
I can’t decide which Home Alone I prefer, as I do love HA2 as it’s set in NYC. But you can’t beat a Home Alone film, even though I sit and wonder things like; how hasn’t Kevin killed those burglars with those pranks, I wonder how much the mortgage is on that house and HOW DO YOU NOT REALISE YOU’VE LEFT YOUR CHILD BEHIND. But apart from that, I thoroughly enjoy the film.
3. The Gavin & Stacey Christmas Special
The Gavin and Stacey Christmas special is one of my fave Christmas watches as it makes me feel so festive! From Smithy and Gavin’s rendition of Do They Know It’s Christmas, Nessa being Santa Claus ‘ Oh Oh Oh What’s Occurring?’ and the joys of family Christmas dinners, makes me laugh every year.
4. The Holiday
Ahh The Holiday! I love this film! It’s not too Christmassy but is still Christmassy, if that even makes sense? It makes me want to buy a cottage in the country and you will 100% swoon over Jude Law. Lovely film.
5. Gossip Girl Season 1 Christmas Episode
I recently watched this on Netflix and it made me feel pretty festive so I thought I’d include it in this list. Watch it purely for Blair’s amazing ice skating outfit and the Waldorf’s amazing pink themed Christmas tree.
6. The Grinch
Speaking of Gossip Girl, isn’t it crazy that Cindy Lou is little J from GG? Anyways, The Grinch is another favourite in our house. I love the baby Grinch and we have a soft spot for Max the Dog, I’m also waiting for someone to actually invent the fairy light gun which would mean decorating your house would be a doddle!
7. Love Actually
Ahhh possibly my second favourite Christmas film. Love Actually is one we try and save for a bit nearer to Christmas, as it makes me feel so Christmassy. It used to be our Christmas Eve film, but we usually watch it the weekend before. Such a feel good film and yes every time I watch it, I wish Hugh Grant was the actual PM.
8. Friends Episode ‘The One With The Holiday Armadillo’
Another TV watch now, and you can’t not watch the Friends episode with The Holiday Armadillo at Christmas. One of Friends, more iconic episodes, though there are loads of Christmas episodes to choose from. Maybe get a play list going, and sit and spend the afternoon watching them.
9. Miracle On 34th Street
I had to include this classic film, which I again love because it’s set in NYC. I love Mara Wilson and it’s not Christmas till you’ve watched this! This year we decorated the tree and had this on in the background. A good old classic to watch on a Sunday afternoon.
10. Nativity
Last year was the first time I ever watched Nativity, I saw it on Netflix and I watched it with a Bailey’s Hot Chocolate (standard) whilst I wrapped presents and it was such a nice afternoon. I wasn’t expecting Nativity to make me laugh so much, (or cry) but it was a lovely film, that I will be for sure watching again this Christmas!
So now it’s your turn, what’s your fave Christmas watch?
