It seems that as soon as September rolled in, the weather turned into Autumn. The nights started to draw in, in fact, I even put the heating on the other morning! I have to admit that, although I am a little sad to be saying goodbye to Summer, I am excited for Autumn and Winter, you guys know just how much I love Christmas, but not only that, I love the cosy evenings that Autumn and Winter bring.
With this change of weather, I no longer feel guilty about spending a Sunday afternoon watching Netflix rather than being outside. So with this in mind, I thought I’d share some of fave cosy watches to watch on TV when the weather is a bit dreary outside.
So grab your remote, arm yourself with a blanket and a hot chocolate and let’s get stuck in!
Gilmore Girls
This is the ultimate Autumn cosy watch for me, perhaps it’s because I watched the whole 7 seasons last Autumn, so I now associate Gilmore Girls with the season, but there’s a lot of episodes set in ‘Fall’ and Stars Hallow is the perfect cute town that screams Autumn. But not only is the setting very autumnal, but the actual show is perfect for cosy watching. It requires little thinking, the fact that it’s over ten years old gives it a cosy feel, and you’ll find yourself feeling like you’re a Gilmore Girl yourself. It’s based around a mother and daughter and their lives in a small town. To me, Gilmore Girls is like a big old hug, or your favourite pair of pyjamas, comforting and cosy. (I realise I’ve said the word cosy about 27326 times already) I’m going to start Gilmore Girls again, but I want to finish Gossip Girl first, which you’ve guessed it, leads me to my next watch …
Gossip Girl
I’ve been re watching Gossip Girl over the past few weeks for probably what is the tenth time, but I have to say, I’m really enjoying re watching it this time. Each season is pretty much set over the time period of a year, and a lot of the time the episodes are set around Autumn and Winter in New York City which arguably is one of the best cities in the world. You don’t need to think too much (well apart from when you’re thinking of all the plot holes about who is actual gossip girl and how it makes no sense) but apart from that, very little brain activity is required. I like to watch and wish I was more like Blair Waldorf and swoon over Chuck Bass and Serena’s wardrobe.
Chalet Girl
Talking of Chuck Bass aka Ed Westwick, let’s move onto Chalet Girl. The perfect film to watch on a cold day under a duvet on the sofa. I love watching this at Christmas time. It’s a story about a chalet girl who finds a new love for two things; 1. snowboarding, and 2. a fit engaged guy who’s family owns the chalet where she works. It will make you want to A: become a snowboarder and B: marry Ed Westwick -so just a little warning there.
Mean Girls
When I was thinking of cosy watches, Mean Girls popped into my head, and I’m not sure why, maybe it’s because it’s set mainly in Autumn/Winter time ( we all know about the Halloween scene) or maybe it’s because it’s my fave film so it makes me feel cosy watching it? Who knows. But I’m going to watch it soon, as it’s a little Autumn/Halloweeny and well Mean Girls Day is coming up soon (October 3rd) so what a perfect time to watch!

This is my ultimate go to film when I’m feeling sad or homesick. I watched it on the plane to Vegas on my Trek America trip which was my first time going away, without anyone I knew, and this film made me feel better. I also watched it when I was in a hotel room in London by myself and it’s just the perfect cosy film. It’s annoyingly not on Netflix anymore, so I think I’m going to have to bite the bullet and buy the DVD, but I couldn’t not include this cute film as it’s a film that I go to when I’m feeling a bit under the weather. It’s a story about two childhood sweethearts, and their lives over the year. It’s the perfect British Romcom and you will have the biggest girl crush on Lily Collins once you’re finished.
Riverdale
Back to TV, I wanted to include Riverdale as it’s very Autumn-y thanks to it’s colour grading. Season 2 is coming back on October 12th which I’m so excited for, it’s got subtle Halloween vibes and it’s a perfect binge watch. Doesn’t require much thinking, it has a good looking cast and the perfect ‘who dunnit’ storyline. Absolutely perfect for watching on dark rainy evenings.
The Great British Bake Off
If you live in the UK like me, you will know that around this time of year, we all go a bit mad for GBBO. We all wondered if it would still be as good on Channel 4 and without our beloved Mary Berry, Mel and Sue, but I have to admit, it’s still one of my fave cosy watches. We used to be a bit anti bake off, until we watched a celebrity version and thought ‘hey this is quite good!’ Now like most of the nation, we’re glued to our screens watching amateur bakers bake and getting incredibly stressed about soggy bottoms. It’s perfect cosy mid week watching, you have to make sure you have snacks though or you will get hungry.
Gavin & Stacey
So my final cosy watch favourite is Gavin and Stacey, which is based around a young British couple, it features James Cordon, and still cracks me up to this day although I’ve seen the episodes about 21 times. It’s a really easy watch, pretty heartwarming and very funny. Doris is my favourite character and her response to ‘where’s the salad’ will always make me laugh. If you know, you know. I always hope that they’ll do a Gavin and Stacey reunion episode one of these days, but I don’t know if they ever will. The Christmas episode (with the Nan behind the sofa) is one of my fave Christmassy watches, it’s on Netflix, so binge away!
