I feel that summer is slowly slipping away from us. I don’t know, maybe that’s me being a bit melodramatic, but honestly every night I see the sky getting darker earlier, and the other evening I sat in a blanket watching TV. I suddenly realised that Autumn will soon be upon us, which you know I’m not too devastated about because HELLO wine lipstick, Halloween, ankle boots, and pumpkin spice lattes. (Okay I’ve never actually had a pumpkin spice latte but to me they scream Autumn so I thought I’d include them.)
Okay so before I get too ahead of myself, (it is still august after all) , we still have a few weeks of summer left (hooorah!) This is actually the first summer that I’ve actually enjoyed for a couple of years, and I will be sad when it’s over, I’ll definitely miss the lighter evenings that’s for sure. I thought I’d do a post all about some of my summer faves, some random favourites like food and music, to beauty. I thought I’d throw them all in one post, to show you what I have been loving this summer so far. I might make this a seasonal thing maybe, if you like it of course!
Favourite Shop:
Okay so maybe a bit of a random start, but I wanted to give a shout out to my fave shop this summer for outfits. Forever 21, have some amazing things right now, very cute dresses, shorts, skirts and all so cheap as well. I have found so many nice things for my summer wardrobe this year from there, and I could probably buy something new every week. If you’re looking for either some holiday or summer wardrobe inspiration, Forever 21 is the place to go.
Favourite Book:
I’ve mentioned here and there that this summer has been a bit of a stressful one. From buying our house, to moving, to work related stress, I’ve found myself being a little more wound up than usual. Something I have found to help me relax and unwind is reading, I’ve been trying to set some time aside most evenings to sit and read and give myself a break from the internet, social media and work. I’ve been reading The Crossfire Series recently, it’s a set of five books ( Bared To You, Reflected In You, Entwined With You, Captivated by You and One With You) by Sylvia Day, which are based around two characters and their romance; Eva and Gideon. I’d not heard of the books until recently, but I wish I’d known about them sooner as I’ve not been able to put them down since I popped them on my Kindle and iPad. In fact you may have even heard of The Crossfire Series before, as the books have been a hit across the world and are even a New York Times bestseller. Like I said, I’ve been reading the books on my Kindle, as the downloadable digital version is now available, and I have been loving the story. To give you a little ideas of a backstory, It’s set in NYC and the story kind of reminds me a little of Twilight which is one of my fave reads anyways. I love these types of books, they’re my guilty pleasure, because you don’t need to think too much, you can just sit back, read and get lost in the story.
I find this genre is perfect for holiday/summer reading, perfect for sitting by the pool, or on a sun lounger on the beach. I’ve almost finished the first book Bared To You, which I’ve not been able to put down since I started reading. It’s not all lovey dovey though as you may expect, as there’s also twists and turns which I like, with hints at Eva’s dark past which gets you thinking ‘what exactly happened?’ The series has the perfect amount of twists to keep me gripped and gives me a little to ponder but not too much so it keeps me up at night questioning things! I’ve been really enjoying having a series of books to read, and I can’t wait to get stuck into the other four books as I love knowing that the story carries on, as I always get quite attached to characters and stories when I’m reading. Is anyone else like that?
You almost feel like you know them by the time you’ve finished reading! If you wanna join me with reading the Crossfire series, you can download them from Amazon here. But I’ve found reading in the evening a great way to switch off, it helps me sleep, and even taking half an hour out of my day to go sit in the garden with my book on my iPad, helps me to recharge, and well it helps that the story is so compelling, I almost have to give myself breaks to read more haha!
Have any of you read the Crossfire series before? I think you’d like them 🙂
Favourite Food:
So this is probably top of many people’s fave summer food, but recently I have had a lot of love for watermelon. I’ve always been a big fan of watermelon but I’ve been buying it every week to have in the evening, and omg I am watermelons number one fangirl right now. I would have it every meal if I could. Although I’m pretty sure you can get it all year round (correct me if I’m wrong though) I feel like it’s the ultimate summer fruit, I’d probably feel a little weird eating it in like Autumn, so I’m trying to make the most of it now!
TV Favourites:
So summer is technically not the best time to be watching TV cause you know you should be outside enjoying the sunshine, but as we all know the UK weather can be unpredictable so y’know, TV is the answer. This summer, I’ve had three TV favourites, first of all there’s Love Island, I was obsessed, and I mean obsessed with this earlier this summer. You’ll know this if you follow me on Twitter, cause it was all I ever went on about for 6 weeks, but if you’re looking for something easy to watch and summery, this is your thing. It’s like Big Brother and Geordie Shore in the sun, amazing. I’ve also been loving life as PLL and Suits have come back for new seasons, PLL is getting darker and twistier and turnier each week which is amazing, and Suits is just always amazing and also all I want in life is to be as sassy as Rachel Zane.
Music Favourites:
So when the sun came out a couple of weeks ago, I took a couple of days off to spend in the garden and I made (totally tooting my own trumpet here) a whopping summer playlist. Probably one of my best, I must say. But I filled it full of summery songs, and it’s perfect for lying in the garden with, or on a summery road trip, on the beach, or even to try and inject some sun on a gloomy day. You can listen to it below if you fancy.
I also have discovered a new band recently, well they’re not new but new to me if that makes sense. With Confidence are an Australian pop punk band and I’ve been really enjoying their album Better Weather, if you like 5sos, Good Charlotte, Blink 182, that kinda thing, then you’ll probably like these guys. Not necessarily summery music but something I’ve been listening to a lot recently, so I thought I’d give them a mention!

Finally a few summery beauty faves, cause what’s a favourites post without a mention of a make up item or two? First of all is the Models Own Polish for Tans collection, which are the perfect summery/holiday nail paints and they do genuinely make you look more tanned. Winner winner. I’ve also been obsessed with the L’Oreal Superbalm in the colour 102 Gossip, which is a peachy gloss. It’s so perfect for just popping on and it’s so nice and summery. I’ve been wearing it with a smokey eye and I’ve almost worn it all the way down. My go to summer lip for sure. Finally, we have the Anastasia Glow Kit in That Glow which is like my new baby. Four amazing highlighters? Yes please. I love Dripping In Gold and Sunburst, together they give you that perfect on point highlight. I usually find that I enjoy putting it on so much though that I have to fight the temptation to just highlight my whole face, but then I’m like ‘Corrie you don’t wanna look like the moon so hold your horses.’ Anyone else do this or just me?
So there is my recent summer faves, I’m hoping that summer holds out for a little longer though, I’m not quite ready for Autumn just yet!
So tell me what’s been some of your faves this summer?
