So a little while ago, my manager Emma (hi Emma) asked me to write a post about eyeliners. She wanted to know the best ones out there, you know the ones that last all day and don’t leave you looking like Alice Cooper come 6pm. Being that I’m a really nice person (and she is one of my managers after all) I got to researching and trying many eyeliners. After a very lengthy process (soz Emma) I finally have my favourite eyeliners that work. I present to you, the best of the best.. the eyeliner edition.
Truth be told, I have a love/hate affair with eyeliner. Back in the day, I would always wear it on my waterline but these days I prefer it without. I also sometimes have it on my upper lash line, but then other days I feel it makes my eyes look too small. When I was younger, I was much more into eyeliner, and I tried alot of eyeliners to get the perfect look. They were mainly drugstore ones and my favourites still are from the drugstore. Sometimes you really don’t need to spend a lot of money to get a good product. I’ve got three types of eyeliner to tell you about; Kohl (pencil) Gel ( a thicker liquid form) and liquid liner. All three do very different things, and look different but it’s important to get the right ones.
Kohl Liner: Pencil Liner: Best for lining the waterline and general smudginess: Rimmel Scandaleyes Eyeliner
Boy have I tried many pencil eyeliners, when I used to love lining my waterline, I used to be obsessed with finding one that lasted the longest. Many would fade within the hour, or just move down to my lower lash line making me look like a Marilyn Manson tribute act. So I was overjoyed when I discovered the Scandeleyes liner from Rimmel. They come in a array of colours, my favourites are the black and nude ones though. Perfectly pigmented for lining your waterline and they last all day. They’re also great if you’re on a budget and I usually have one of these lying around in my handbag for any emergency touch ups.
Gel Liner: Best for lining the waterline for a more dramatic look or for lining the upper lash line: Maybelline 24hour Gel Eyeliner:
Now if you like a lined waterline, then this is the liner for you. It’s so pigmented and it really does last all day and night. I wore this last Saturday night and I was still trying to get it off on Sunday morning. Yes I did do the whole drunk lazy make up removing business. Whoops. But if you want long lasting this is your product. It battles against watery eyes, sweaty climates and pesky flies that fly into your eye. Again a budget buy, a must have for waterline lined fans.
Liquid Liner: Best for lining the upper lash line: L’oreal Superliner Range:
Liquid liner, is the trickiest liner to use in my opinion. Many a time I have ended up with liquid liner near to my eyebrow or on my nose. Don’t ask. Not only do you need a steady hand but you need a good liner. You want one that’s pigmented, one that won’t flake and fade and one that has a nice nib to draw with. I’ve found that L’oreal’s liners are second to none. They’re pens are easy to work with, even a cack handed person like myself can do respectable eyeliner and they stay put all day. The pen version is super easy to use and almost foolproof. I’m going to call it; Eyeliner for eyeliner noobs. Myself included there. The nibs are also quite easy to do that sexy cat eye flick look, sadly this is something I cannot master but if you’re a bit more steady with your hand try it out with these. I always turn to L’oreal when I want a little liquid liner in my life.
So there we have my top four eyeliners, they all survive the test when it comes to staying put, they all survive the test of being pigmented and they all survive the test of being relatively easy to apply. So to Emma (and anyone else who may of wanted advice about eyeliner) I hope this has helped. Make sure you also have a good eye make up remover to wash away the liner at the end of the day. Eyeliner can be very much like glitter nail polish, in the sense it looks pretty but can be a nightmare to get off! I hope you’re all well and I’ll see you soon 🙂
