I don’t know why but as soon as I see a little bit of sun, I’m digging out lipsticks, blushers and nail colours in the shades of coral, orange and peach. Gone are the pale nude colours, the brights are out in force. Usually I’m a bit of a nude lipstick girl, I’m not as bad as I used to be mind, but I’m still a bit reserved when it comes to lip colours. Though as soon as it turns May, I seem to get a little more confident and down goes MAC’s Shy Girl and out comes the punchier colours. When the Boots No.7 vouchers were doing the rounds a good few weeks ago, I decided to take advantage of them. Being a beauty blogger, I don’t think I have that many lipsticks, especially not summery ones. So I pursued the aisle of No.7 and bought two very summery additions to my collection.
After a cringe encounter with the sales assistant *more about that in my May Favourites video if you watch my videos on youtube* I skipped home excited to try my new brighter lip products. I decided to go for the No.7 High Shine Lip Crayon in Tickle which is a coral/red/orange combo. I imagine this is No.7’s version of the Clinique Chubby Stick but what I love about it is that there is a bit of a gloss finish to the lips. I’m not a fan of matte lipsticks, and I think especially in the summer. This lip crayon is perfect for popping in your handbag and getting out for a quick application. It looks effortless, it’s summery and is nice and light so you forget you even have it on. The colour can be built up, it looks quite scary in the tube, but just one swash gives you a hint of a coral, but after building up you get a real pop of corange. Yes that’s coral and orange. The colour still isn’t too in your face though, it’s not too scary for day time and I can already imagine this looking amazing with a tan, barely any make up when you’re on holiday. A new favourite in my books? I think so.
Swatches of the Lip Crayon and BB Lips together..
The second summery lip product I picked up in Boots, was No.7’s BB Lips Beauty Balm, essentially a lipgloss and again a dupe for a higher end product. Last year No.7 released lip glosses practically identical to the Clarins Instant Lip Perfectors, I used mine all throughout the summer, so I was really excited to see this year’s offerings. This year’s BB Lips come with a plastic applicator rather than a sponge, which I actually prefer and it’s much more hygienic! I got the colour Blush Coral which is a peach shade. The gloss is slightly pigmented, you can wear it on it’s own for a subtle look or pair it over the top of a brighter shade which is what I tend to do. The gloss isn’t sticky which is great, a pet hate of mine is sticky gloopy lips. Your hair won’t get stuck to this gloss, thankfully as we all know this isn’t a great look. It also has a SPF of 15 and UVA protection so you can wear it on the beach, and look good and protected. These two lip products have rarely been off my lips since I bought them, and I’m pretty sure that will be the case for the rest of the summer! What’s your favourite summer lip products?
