For years, I’ve dreamt of having a fireplace. That sounds very strange, and lame, but hear me out. It can’t just be me who thinks about the things that you’d love in your dream house, and for me, I’ve always wanted a fireplace. I loved how cosy they looked, and most importantly, I wanted one to decorate around Christmas time. I had visions of hanging up stockings, and candles on it, and I was a little disappointed when I realised our house didn’t have a fireplace when we bought it.
However, after replacing our boiler and taking out the fire (adult life really is exciting) it meant we could change things up, and guess what that meant? A fireplace. Oh yeah.
Hang on, I’m openly admitting to getting very excited about a fireplace. I am officially old.
Okay, so yeah fireplace woo. We managed to get one just in time for last Christmas, but let’s say it was a bit rustic looking, and I’m not even joking, it’s taken the best part of a year to get all fixed up. Anyways, good things come to those who wait, and this Christmas, I had a proper fireplace to decorate, well a fireplace without a fire, I should say!
So after decorating the fireplace for Halloween, I couldn’t wait to decorate it for Christmas too. I’m really happy with how it looks, and kinda want to keep it like this all year round. What do you think? Think I can get away with it?
So here are my essentials for decorating a fireplace, if you too fancy sprucing up your fireplace for Christmas 🙂
A Garland : The easiest way to decorate your fireplace is to add a garland. It instantly makes the place look more festive, and is super easy to just put on and well, there you go. Mine is white with silver glitter, and I loved it as it’s a little different to the usual Christmas garlands you get, and different to any others I own. I wanted to go for a white and pink theme for the fireplace, and thought this Amara Living garland was perfect.
Candle Sticks : I’ve found that having candle sticks at either end of the fireplace tends to work really well. I love these marble and copper candle holders, and I’m going to keep them up all year too, as they’re not too Christmassy. I have put in pink candles just to add some pink to the area and think it all works really well. I’ve also got some white candles too for when Christmas is over and for more of a subtle look.
Candles: Candles always work well on a fireplace, I seem to have about 124 different ones, okay I’m exaggerating, but I do have a fair few. ATM they’re all Christmas scented too, what can I say, I’m obsessed?
Ornaments: That may sound a bit vague, but the rest of decorating a fireplace is all down to having some ornaments. I have a mixture of things such as; this candle holder, a blush pink Christmas tree ( I love this!) a Silver Star, and some snowy branches in this pink and grey vase all from Amara Living. I’ve put these to the side of the bottom of the fireplace and I love how it all looks.
Lantern: To cover up the fire less bit of the fireplace, I have put a lantern in the hole and filled it with fairy lights and baubles. I thought this added a bit more of a Christmas touch to the area, and I think it looks quite cute!
All together, I’m really happy with how the fireplace looks. It didn’t actually take too much effort, but I think it looks really lovely. I have some fairylights on top of the Garland which I turn on in the evening. I love how it looks, and I’m going to be very sad to take it all down when Christmas is all over. But hey, today is only the 14th, we don’t need to think about that just yet!
