Maybe I’ve been on Pinterest too much, as I no longer just think that dinner goes on your dining table at Christmas. Over the past couple of years, as we’ve done the Christmas dinner, I’ve made an extra effort to decorate the dining table and make the dining room look all festive.
With our dining room/kitchen being pretty much finished now (yes it really has taken the best part of a year) this year I wanted to make a bit more effort to make the table look all Christmassy. Today I thought I’d share how I’ll be decorating our table and some ideas that you can use yourself too, if you fancy getting your dining table ready for Christmas as well!
First of all, the basics; our table and benches are from Next, we picked them up in a sample sale, the week before last Christmas, and then our chairs are from TKMaxx. They’re a grey/bluey colour but I am obsessed with them. However I do put a blanket down, before anyone eats on them, cause I’m scared about them get stained, which Henry finds hilarious, he tells me I can’t do this on Christmas Day, but he has another thing coming if he thinks I’m gonna risk some gravy staining those bad boys. I’m like Monica from Friends in the Thanksgiving episode with the plates- if you know, you know.
Anyways, enough of me chatting about my chairs and my fear of stains. Let’s talk table decorations. Although I probably will take some of this off for when we tuck into our Christmas Dinner, I think decorating the table for the lead up to Christmas/Christmas morning looks really pretty, and is a nice touch. I also had so much fun decorating the table, and I’m really happy with how it all looks.
So first of all, we have a garland which is from Next, I thought this garland with fairy lights was gorgeous and fitted really well with my theme (yes that’s right, I had a table theme) although I will probably take it off when we start eating dinner, I love how it looks and feel like it’s really jazzed up the table. I’ve recently just had it on the table on it’s own and it adds such a lovely Christmas touch to the dining area.
My table centrepiece is something I completely stole from Pinterest, all I’ve done is filled a trifle dish with baubles and I love how it looks! You can get trifle dishes pretty much everywhere, this one is from Next and it’s the perfect size for filling with baubles, I mean maybe one day I’ll use it for an actual trifle but where is the fun in that? I’ve added gold baubles as the table colour is very gold, and I love how it looks. It’s such an easy thing to do, but looks so good! I think this would also look amazing with pink baubles too!
You can’t have a Christmas table without crackers can you? These gold and black crackers are gorgeous and I loved the colour of them and the pattern. I sometimes find that crackers can be a bit naff, but I love these. They’re almost too pretty to pull!
Now let’s talk about the actual table wear because it’s all beautiful. Last year, I went for a grey and copper theme for the table, this year however, it’s all about marble and gold. I am obsessed.
First of all we have the amazing marble plates from Next. I am like Monica from Friends again and the role of Crazy Plate Lady will go to me, as I will probably be making sure no one uses their cutlery too hard on the plates, I realise as I type this, I sound a bit mad, hopefully there is someone else out there who is a fellow Monica! Anyways, the plates are beautiful though right? There’s also side plates and bowls which we’ll probably use for dessert.
Then we have gold cutlery, which I am obsessed with. We’ve had copper cutlery for the past year which I loved, but wanted a little change and think that gold is so perfect for this time of year. I also feel like they’re quite regal, so I definitely feel a bit like Kate Middleton when I use them.
Finally we have these gorgeous gold wine glasses, which tie everything with the gold theme perfectly and are such a good size for wine with dinner. I think they’re beautiful though and can’t wait to use them around Christmas time, even if I am limited to just a couple of glasses of wine thanks to being on Roacctune, but hey I can pop my shloer in them and pretend haha.
So there we have our Christmas dining table, I am so happy with how it looks, and think it makes such a difference to the dining area, pretty much every part of the house looks all Christmassy now!
I’d love to know if you have any tips/traditions for decorating your dining table for Christmas?
For now, I will go, but I’ll see you tomorrow for tomorrow’s post! Bye x
