I was really excited to receive a bottle of the new Bondi Sands Self Tan Eraser in the post on Friday morning. The new product from Australian tanning brand Bondi Sands was launched on Thursday, and to be honest, I completely surprised to receive a bottle myself and so fast too. I couldn’t wait to try it out and today (whilst my tea cooks in the oven) I thought I’d sit down and tell you my first impressions.
So let’s start with the basics, what is this product? So it’s called a Self Tan Eraser and it aims to remove your fake tan within five minutes. Now if you’re a keen bean with the fake tan like I am, then this will excite you. We’ve all been in those situations where you are scrubbing at your skin trying to get fake tan off and it won’t budge, so much so, you wonder if someone replaced your fake tan with Ronseal. Or when you don’t exfoliate good enough and are left with patchy fake tan, or we’ve all had a fake tan disaster and you want that comedy tan off quick. Anyways, this product claims to solve all those issues.
So it’s a white foam that you apply to dry skin, so you use this pre showering. It claims to have no harmful ingredients, and it will also moisturise the skin. I mean, I had to stop myself from applying it as soon as the post lady handed me the parcel, as I was just so intrigued by this. I did however wait till Friday night which was also probably the hottest night of the year (a great one to fake tan on NATTTT)
I applied the white foam all over my body and particularly applied more in areas such as my knees and ankles which were very dry and a bit patchy. I had fake tanned a week ago and also the bottle suggests this works better on three day old+ tan, so this was perfect timing. I applied, left it on for about 10 minutes because I got distracted by something on my phone, then went to the shower.
Now the bottle suggests using a facecloth to take the cleanser off, however, I found that it was more effective using an exfoliating glove. I saw that the water was going brown (lovely) so the tan was coming off. I opened up the shower curtain so I could properly see (I almost flooded the bathroom so don’t say I never do anything for you) and the tan was coming off.
Now places like my ankles which are very patchy and probably have fake tan left on them from 2009. were still pretty much the same, however everywhere else my tan basically had come off. It was like magic, and I couldn’t quite get my head round it. It just disappeared.
So does this work? Yes it does.
Now there are a few things I must mention: 1. I felt like this smelt quite chemically, it reminded me of hair dye, although it claims to have no harmful ingredients in, I wasn’t really a fan of the smell. But I can live with that, if it gets rid of my fake tan. 2. I’d be careful with this if you have sensitive skin, as this stung a couple of areas around my fingers where the skin had come off, so just a little warning that if you have sensitive skin or perhaps a cut or something, it may sting. 3. I think you need to apply a lot more/wait longer for really stubborn tan build ups.
So in a nutshell, this does work. I am impressed and I think this will save a lot of time scrubbing and also will make me want to tan more as taking off old tan won’t be such a faff.
I do want to try it out in different ways though, so for example, when you have a tan disaster (such as the dreaded orange hands) or I want to see if it works better with Bondi Sands tan or whether it’s good with any tan. The tan I took off wasn’t bondi sands and still worked so I guess yes, but I’m still intrigued.
So yeah there we go, I’m pretty sure it’s launching on 5th June in Boots, it’s £12/14.99- I keep seeing different prices, if you’re a big fake tanner, and hate scrubbing your skin to get tan off, then you’ll love this. I’m really intrigued by this product, I feel like I don’t get how it works, but it’s good. Great idea and something I’ll be using week in, week out I am sure.
Anyways just a quick review from me tonight, like I said my tea is the oven so should probably go check on that, hope you’re having a nice bank holiday, see you soon! x
