If someone said to me, ‘for one million pounds what is your favourite nail polish brand?’ I’d be like ‘one why are you giving me a million for this, and two probably essie.’
essie used to be the nail polish brand that I would only be able to get from the USA from an Ebay seller, but thankfully the UK got with the programme and now we can get Essie easy peasy. So long Beautyzone2007.
With my essie collection growing over the years, the finish, the brushes and colours have meant the brand has made it into my top 10 of fave beauty brands. The new Retro Revival collection which is in stores such as Boots right now, is SO pretty and well I may have screamed (slight over reaction? No never) when they arrived at my door.
To celebrate essie being 35 (who knew?) the Retro Revival line is full of classic shades that have been re launched for this collection . Inspired by Essie Weingarten (that’s actual essie btw) who went to Vegas to sell the first collection to glamorous showgirls, the colours are inspired by the lights and glamour of Vegas.
So the colours are; Starry Starry Night – a midnight blue glitter which has been brought back due to high demand apparently. Sequin Sash is a pearly bronze colour with flecks of silver glitter, Life Of The Party is a wine colour with a pearly sheen. Cabana Boy a pearly cool toned lilac white, this is SO 90’s, I swear this was the same colour as that nail art pen from the Sabrina’s Secret magazine. Bikini With A Martini is a coral shimmery pink, imagine it would be great on toes for a beach holiday. Finally my fave from the collection; Birthday Suit, which fun fact was the sixth essie shade ever created, but is a nude sheer colour. It takes a good 3/4 coats to become opaque, but so pretty!
The colours apart from Starry Starry Night and Life Of The Party, are pretty sheer colours. Expect to paint a few coats to get them opqaue. If you have no patience for painting your nails and waiting for them to dry, then I don’t think this would be the collection for you.
With gold sparkles on the lid, the collection feels a little more glam than normal essie’s. Although I’m more of a pastel opaque nail colour girl, these are seriously pretty. My pics would be Birthday Suit and Cabana Boy.
As always I find that essie lasts pretty well on the nails, and the brush is nice and wide making painting quite easy. I think they’re in Boots till next Tuesday (12th) so make sure you get your skates on, if you like any of the colours.
I am definitely going to be adding to my essie collection soon so tell me your faves!
Will you be trying, or have you tried any of the Retro Revival collection?
