Okay so I don’t want to become one of those people who once they get engaged, all they talk about is wedding planning or their ring. I basically don’t want to become an engagement w*nker. Which is a bit crude, but you get my drift. Not one of those who posts her hand in every photos, or shoves her ring in everyone’s faces, cause well that just ain’t me. However today, I want to talk about something that I feel is pretty important when you first get engaged… the nail polish.
Okay, okay, hear me out, but before I got engaged, I used to have a bit of this fear of being proposed to when I had chipped nails. I know, I know, I am officially a loser. I hadn’t quite realised that you of course don’t need to instagram your ring straight away, you know there’s no rule or law. Ah what a doughnut I am.
I guess though, you always dream of having a romantic proposal from when you’re a young girl, so you just want things to be perfect. The thing is, I had no idea what was going to happen to me. I thought, I was going to NYC with my Mum so I hadn’t taken into account nice manicures, or anything like that. So when painting my nails for my holiday, I went for Essie Blossom Dandy, a aqua bright blue, which I thought was perfect for holiday nails. But not exactly engagement nails.
When Henry proposed, I did think THANK GOD MY NAILS AREN’T CHIPPED, but I knew I wanted something a bit more classic to show off my ring, so when we stopped by a drugstore that evening, I quickly ran up to the Essie counter.
I’d had my eye on Essie’s Minimalist for a few months prior to this whole situ, in fact I saw it on Hannah’s snapchat not long after she returned from NYC and I may have sent her a text saying ‘TELL ME WHAT IS ON YOUR NAILS!’ For some reason, Minimalistic isn’t part of the UK core collection which is rather ruddy annoying.
It’s a cool toned opaque baby pink. Basically my fave kind of nail polish colour. It even makes my sausage fingers look a bit more elegant and I just knew it was the perfect engagement polish.
I’ve worn Minimalistic for weeks and weeks, I’ve taken it off when it’s started to chip to paint it back on again, I don’t know why but I’m just obsessed with the colour and it’s always now going to have that special memory to me as being my engagement polish. Please tell me that I’m not the only one who remembers what nail polish they are wearing at significant events in their life?
I guess this may seem silly and sad to some people, but I’ve always been obsessed with nail polish, and well now I have a very special polish in my collection. But now I guess my next decision is what nail polish would I have for my wedding day? But that’s a while off yet, so I don’t think I need to worry just yet.
So tell me, what nail polish were you wearing when you engaged/married or what’s your favourite special occasion polish?
