I don’t know what it is about this time of the year, but it makes me go a little house crazy. I wake up one day and I’m like ‘I WANT TO CHANGE EVERYTHING IN THE HOUSE.’ Usually a couple of new cushion covers suffice, but this year we are moving in a few weeks which means we will have a blank canvas to put our stamp on. Although our new place will only be ours for six months (it’s a family owned property and we’re renting it till the Spring) we are excited to do some decorating and well actually have some space!
As much as we’ve loved our little house that we live in right now, it is very tiny. The living room only fits in a two seater sofa which when you pair with two adults and a labradoodle who is the size of an adult, things get cosy. There’s only enough room for one person in the kitchen, and the clothes airer is always in the way. But it’s been our little house, but we are ready to move on and well finally have a place where you’re not bumping into the clothes airer when you go for a wee in the night.
I don’t want to spend an awful lot of money on new things for the new place, but I want a couple of new things here and there, as in our house tight now, we don’t have a lot of accessories cause there’s simply no room. I feel excited to make a house a home, and then hopefully these things we can take with us to our next place in a few months time.
So where do you get stuff that’s nice for your house but also pretty cheap? Well I’ve been doing some investigating and here are my top picks:
H&M Home: If you don’t own at least one thing from H&M home you are not a proper blogger, I’m afraid. No I’m totally kidding, but seriously everyone and their nan is proper loving H&M home right now, and I can definitely see why. IT’S ALL SO PRETTY AND IN EXPENSIVE. Like seriously, you can get a nice cushion for £6, on trend metallic candles for £3, like I could literally buy it all. I’ve been eyeing up their new Christmas range, all the metallics – oh my. We’ve bought a new squishy grey corner sofa (legit so excited to snuggle on this) so I’m thinking of having metallic to go along with the theme, maybe some copper? Perhaps some silver maybe. I am obsessed with these vases, and well I may just have to get this toothbrush holder for the bathroom!
Prints: One thing that is everywhere right now, is prints. Sassy quotes or illustrations seem to be super popular on places like Pinterest and well I’ve been sucked in to this. I was telling Henry last night, my plans for a print wall at the new place, I thought we could include prints that are from things we both love but in the same colours. I was thinking a monochrome theme, he kind of looked interested and nodded his head, which is probably like ‘I know you’re going to this print wall regardless’ and he’s probably right bless him.
I have a few prints in my office at the moment, and I’ll be taking them to my new place too. The very lovely PastelTrail who provided me with this amazing You Go Glen Coco print, are offering one print to one of you guys. All you have to do is enter the rafflecopter giveaway below, and then I’ll contact the winner in a week 🙂
DIYS: Pinterest really has opened up a whole new world of DIY’s, and I ruddy love it. Well I’d really love it if I wasn’t so cack handed, but Henry isn’t so y’know. Doing something yourself will usually cost you a lot less, for example were planning to create this kind of hanging light bulbs ourselves and we reckon it’ll cost about £20-30 to do! You could even buy cheap vases from places like Ikea and so forth and some metallic paint and make them all christmasy yourself. Pinterest is my fave place for home inspiration so see if there’s any DIYS for the thing you’re coveting and you never know you might save yourself some money.
George at Asda– A random place for homeware but George right now has an amazing Christmas collection for such good value. I am eyeing up some of their cool lights, and the bedding looks pretty cosy. I feel like a lot of places have upped their game with homeware recently, and Asda definitely have. Go have a look, you will be pleasantly surprised.
Change Stuff Around: If things are really tight with money, one of my favourite things to do to change up the house, is to have a move round. Change positions of the furniture, have a clear out, have different things on display, it will make you feel like you have a new house, and all fresh again. I have had so many changes in my office, I have lost count but every time they’ve made me feel better about the room and more productive! Kind of a basic thing, but it always really works for me!
Buying homeware is one of my fave things to do, I am definitely getting old that’s for sure. But I am excited for this new chapter in our lives, I’m excited for having more space and a homelier home. It’ll be nice to not have Frank sitting on my lap cause there’s no room for him on the sofa but he desperately wants to be with us, I’m excited to have a fresh start. I will be doing lots of moving content around the time when we move (funnily enough) thinking of doing vlogs, and maybe some before and after’s? If that’s what you’d like to see?
Let me know your fave places to buy homeware in the comments 🙂
