As you may know, by day I am a personal shopper. It sounds glamorous but I promise it isn’t really. However being a personal shopper, I have to have a keen interest in fashion and keep up to date with the latest trends. Luckily reading many blogs helps me keep my fashion knowledge brimming, and of course being a bit of a shopaholic helps too! I am usually always browsing websites of my favourite shops. Zara, Topshop, Asos.. etc they’re on my bookmarked pages and the Zara app is probably visited as much as Twitter. With September already here, it’s time to start looking at A/W clothes. I know how depressing, but secretly inside I am dying to get out my scarves, tights and jumpers. This is not like me at all. I think part of the reason is that this year’s A/W collections are so good. After many hours browsing, I’ve come to find the major trends this A/W. Of course they may not be the official trends, but I’ve chosen some products that are my favourite picks and how to wear them. First up we have the first trend which is Grunge.
Longline Blazer: Asos:
Tartan Collar Dress: Zara
Joni Jeans: Topshop
Tartan Collar Shirt: Zara
Buckle Cut Out Boots: New Look
Beanie: Topshop
Grunge seems to be big news this A/W from slouchy pieces, dark moody colours and literally tartan everywhere. The Scot blood in me is doing a fist pump. However being a self confessed girly dresser, I did panic at first at this trend. I am nowhere near cool enough to carry off baggy jeans, and boots. And of course being 5ft 2 I can hardly wear over sized items cause I look like I’ve just dressed up in my Dad’s wardrobe. Thankfully I have found some pieces that I believe everyone can wear, no matter your style. That’s what I love about fashion, you can really wear anything in your own way. My top picks for A/W at the moment, are mostly tartan. I love this long line blazer from ASOS, sadly I don’t think I could pull it off, but I think it would look awesome over a LBD or some jeans in the day. The collared Zara top and dress are featured in my how to wear down below.. so I’ll get on to them in a second. The bleached joni jeans from Topshop, are lovely. Super flattering and they suck everything in. I think the pattern is grunge but also still easy to wear everyday. Cut out buckled boots are big news and a bit more delicate than the heavy Chelsea boots around at the moment, and finally for when winter really strikes, you need to grab a beanie. They are going to be even bigger this Winter.
Dress: Zara
Jacket: Miss Selfridge
Top: Zara
Skirt: Topshop
Hat: Missguided
Boots: Topshop
With my wardrobe consisting mostly of floral dresses, the grunge trend wasn’t exactly made for me. However I do love this dress and top from Zara. They have a collar and you all know how much I love a collar. I would wear the dress with a leather jacket, tights and boots. The top that I’ve been lusting after seeing Charlotte from Geordie Shore wearing it on Instagram would look amazing with a black skater skirt or black jeans. I’d finish the outfit with a bowler hat and there we have it, the grunge look for a girly girl.
So there’s part one of my A/W guide, I’ll be back with two more very soon! I have been patiently waiting for payday so now it’s here I am going to be updating my A/W wardrobe with some of these picks! What’s your A/W picks? I am regretting not holding onto my kilt that I had from when I was little!
